Whitcomb to officially file candidacy for District 69 seat

By Jared Reedy February 2, 2024

Seymour Democrat Trish Whitcomb will officially file the paperwork to run for Indiana House District 69 on Monday at the Indiana Secretary of State’s office at the Statehouse in Indianapolis.

Whitcomb, the daughter of former Indiana Gov. Edgar Whitcomb (1969 to 1973), is currently uncontested in the Democrat primary election. She is running to unseat incumbent Republican State Rep. Jim Lucas, R-Seymour, in the general election.

In the last election cycle two years ago, Lucas won with 73% of the vote against Democratic opponent Chad Harmon.

Whitcomb graduated from Seymour High School and earned a degree in education from Butler University. She is the former president of the Indiana Federation of Democratic Women, and in 2012, she served as the campaign manager for the former state superintendent of public instruction, Glenda Ritz. She also previously served as the executive director of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.

District 69 includes the central and eastern half of Jackson County and parts of Bartholomew, Scott and Washington counties.
